hot inspiration of the week

Ms. Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraim's Daughter Longstocking
Also known as Pippi Longstocking

Childrens books are my favorite types of books. I love the incredibly creative, absurd plot lines that are laced with silly metaphors and the positive messages. The stories and adventures that happen never cease to entice (and excite) my mind! More specifically, I love the protagonists in these books, who are usually ten times more fun and exciting than those of adult novels. I usually cite Eloise, Alice (from Wonderland), The Little Prince, and Winnie-the-Pooh as my favorites, but recently I went back and revisited one of my old forgotten favorites- Pippi Longstockings, aka the girl we all wish we could be.

Described as having "The Strength of Ten Policemen," Ms. Pippi is quite a little allegorical feminist. She rocks different colored socks, some bitchin combat boots, and a personality that can only be described as ferocious. Perhaps she is most known for her fiery red hair, which she wears in pigtails that stick out like antennas that for sure symbolize her "I do wudeva I want" attitude. She has a pet monkey that she makes pancakes for every morning (jealous...I always wanted a pet monkey), lives by herself, and tells snobbish adults to go to hell because she is just living her life. She is incredibly loyal, she bench presses her horse, and tells the most miraculous stories in the whole wide world. Homegirl is, in short, a diva. And I just LOVE her! If you get a chance, go rent the movie or re-read the books, and you will most definitely gain a new perspective on this hysterical and surprisingly inspirational girl. Also, it definitely brought a big smile to my face, which never hurts :)

Anyway, I think we could all benefit from taking a few cards out of Pippi's book. In fact, maybe I'll break out the braids today...

until next time!
